that's what some layouts are...and this one just fell into place with very little effort.
My daughter & her BFF took these photos in a booth last holidays and I "borrowed" them, scanned them & enlarged. I love that 3 of the photos are teen cool and one is just mucking around like kids - that's why it is at an angle.
The heading was made by using HS Newsprint Mask alphabet. Masks are so easy to use, just lay them down & ink or paint or mist over the top (I chose to ink these).
The diecut swirl & flower are by Tinkering Ink and I foam mounted the flower to give it a bit of pop and outlined the swirl so it didn't blend in. I am loving the Carolees tiny alphabets at the moment as you can say so much and not take up a whole lot of space.
Hope you are surviving the school hols!

As you know, I love a challenge and found one on Top50 that challenged me in a few ways...8.5x11 page size & imperfect photo. Well lets be honest we all have a few imperfect photo's lying around, so I made it work.
When (trying) to photograph my youngests birthday's, it is always hard to get a shot that isn't full on blur....she moves at two speeds normally - sloth & speed of light. On her birthday she is so full of excitement (sugar has nothing to do with it) that I rarely get a good one. So I guess this page documents just that. Now the other part of the challenge was the size of the layout. I have only just gotten the hang of doing single 12x12 layouts and have never tried 8.5x11 as I really didn't think I could ever fit everything in...I was wrong.
The papers used are from Pink Paislees Pop Fashion range and the Kaiser Fozz Flower strip matched nicely. Another part of the challenge was to doodle, so if you think that is daunting, try some of these templates, they really do make life easier. (oh and the doodling has been done with a silver and a pink pen - I didn't forget to rub out lines, I was going for a shadowed effect)
So instead of tossing those blurred or imperfect photos, scrap the intention or the story behind them.

With the Easter break and a wonderful sketch by PeaBee I took the challenge and did a layout.
As my photos were landscape not portrait I flipped the sketch onto its side. I loved how well all the bits of left over rubons, stickers and papers all went together.
I have put the details here: Awesome Dare Devil
Hope this adds a bit more inspiration to get you ready for the challenge, you might just win the prize :)

Looking back while making this page I realised just how fast time is flying by...my baby in the photo is now 13 1/2 (yes the half makes all the difference apparently). It really doesn't seem that long ago and yet she is now a young woman with her whole life ahead of her.
I wanted this layout to be soft but not "baby" and not too over the top "lovey", so this range (which I have had sitting around for a while now) by Heidi Swapp seemed just right.
The base is the reverse of Fresh & Free Spirit and layered on that is Lovely Grid. The photo is placed behind Clock Transperancy and a strip from Love Notes Borders is layered over the photo (really cool as the images have slits behind them so you can slide photos into the paper). the journaling block is also from that paper.
The heading uses Invisibles Gridmarks with ink wiped over them (the grid marks are a resist, so they show up when inked- another really cool idea).

Another challenge from Top 50…this time 5,4,3,2,1:
5 pattern paper – one to be used as a photo corner
4 buttons
3 cut outs
2 word title
1 photo, 1 piece of felt, 1 cardstock
The challenge also included inking & distressing.
The five pieces of paper used were all Fancy Pants (there’s a surprise) : Summer Soiree Beach House (cut out flowers and reverse used as photo corner), All Fall Spelling (photo mat), Daily Grind Office Space (heading), Daily Grind Strips (base of page), Summer Soiree Wave (left hand block).
This is why I love Fancy Pants….it doesn’t matter which range you use, you can always find a co-ordinating paper in another range, it makes life soooo easy.
The felt was cut into a flower shape and matted beneath one of the flower cut outs to balance the page as the left side was looking a bit heavy. The cardstock used was Sea Blue Cord.
All the paper edges were inked with Tim Holtz Distress inks. One paper was torn down one edge and two others were distressed with the HS Edge Distresser. The edges of the photo were sanded.
This was a fun challenge as there were limitations placed and it took me a bit out of my comfort zone.

This was a scrap lift challenge from Top 50 which included a quote and two elements from the original layout (half flower & ticket along with Kraft cardstock & butterfly). Now I actually find scraplifting difficult and generally don't, but looked at it differently - as if it was a sketch...and it helped that I really liked the original layout a lot - it's not my usual linear style, so that possibly added to my discomfit, but I am happy with the end result.
The butterfly is from the Bo Bunny day dream rub ons.
The heading Fabulous is from HS Love Notes sticker sheet and the ticket is Tim Holtz Journaling Tickets. The ribbons are from my stash.
All the papers and cardstock have been inked around the edges with Tim Holtz distress ink in walnut stain.

and that was exactly what this challenge from Top50 (so the last one wasn't really the last one after all) was...no journaling, no heading, layering and doodling...and this is what I came up with
The paper I used for the base I have had for years, but I teemed it with Karen Foster graph paper and Scribble Scrabble Prime Times floral.
For layering I used Heidi Swapp mini overlay clock , Little Yellow Bicycle Traveller film strip and October Afternoon Country Fair Journaling Card (the back - they are double sided). I finished off by doodling a frame around the photo.
Can you guess what the photo is all about????

Oh this photo was taken such a long time ago...back when they liked being together and this is the last of the February challenges. This was another Top50 and the challenge was hand cut and hand sewn with some pearls thrown in for good measure.
I used Cosmo cricket paper as the base, but the block to the right of the photo is the back of Scenic Route Sonoma Melody Lane and the flowers have been hand cut from the front with the edges curled and four layers.
I used a pearl heart shaped button from my stash and decorated the white doodled swirls with Kaiser snow pearls. I hand stitched along the edge of the heading and also used the template to hand stitch a swirl in the bottom right corner and top that off with pearls as well.
To border the bottom edge of the photo I used a pearl garland. The pearls and the flowers mimic those in the photo, so I am pleased with the end result.

Do you know what I mean when I say that life has been spinning past just so fast? Here we are up to the middle of February and I feel like I should be saying "happy new year" What is the go with time anyway? When you want it to go fast, like when you are in a test, time just seems to drag on. But the rest of the days go by with such a blur it leaves you giddy!
So I guess thats why I am a scrapbooker, a documentor of the moments that get forgotten or blurred in the time warp. And as a 'mid February resolution' I am going to commit to scrapping the photos and not waiting for the 'right' embellishment, paper, ribbon etc.
Of course there will be a few that I will keep for just the right everything (thats my disclaimer in writing lol) but the majority of the photos I want to document, while fresh so that I can look back on them.
This is the layout that brought this resolution about
I took this photo of the marina at Nelsons Bay on the 20th March 2009, my birthday, and then I held onto it. I was going to do something very clever with the layout. I wanted to get the colour of the paper and the theme of the paper and embellishments just right. I remember thinking that there were so many great things to say about the day, the marina etc. But as you can see from my journaling by the time I did the layout a lot had been forgotten :(
I love the photo, I love the paper, the colours and the embellishments, in fact I really love the whole layout. But it is not what I was waiting for..... so why wait. I want them done in my albums so I can look and see them. (details of page here)
Have done more that will be loaded up over the next few days, for the details of the layouts (mine and Peabee's) check out the gallery at Joyful Scraps, there you can get the details of how the layouts are created and what products are used, after all thats why we share them, so that they hopefully inspire you ;0)
Joyful Scraps GalleryA special big thank you to the wonderful Peabee who has kept the blog going for me while I had to concentrate on other things. Peabee is sure to inspire you :)
